The Great British Bake Off is back! As well as making rum babas, one of the main challenges that the bakers faced this week was to produce a showstopper cake with a hidden design detail inside. Since I feel no shame in being a total fangirl I decided to play along at home, and so yesterday I baked a cookie monster cake with a surprise zebra-striped plain and chocolate sponge inside. The eyes and mouth are home-made white and dark chocolate buttons, and the blue frosting is vanilla buttercream. I made the cake a little more three-dimensional by adding a biscuit poking out of the mouth mid-munch. I think it looks adorable, and couldn't wait to dive in and try a piece, so no glossy photos this time :D
